What do I need to have ready on the day of sale?
To ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience when collecting or dropping off your vehicle, it's important to have the necessary documents ready for the dealer. Here's a checklist of what you need, depending on whether you're the registered keeper or not:
If You Are the Registered Keeper:
- V5C Vehicle Registration Document (Logbook)
- MOT Certificate (If applicable, for cars three years or older)
- All Spare Keys for the car
- Photo ID (Driving Licence or Passport)
- Proof of Address (Utility Bill, Bank Statement, or Council Tax Statement) – Must match the address on the V5C
- Authority from Your Finance Company (If you have finance on the vehicle, a letter confirming the final settlement figure)
- Service Record Book, Car Handbook, Locking Wheel Nuts, Radio and Key Codes (If applicable)
- UK Bank Details (For payment)
- Sufficient Fuel (Ensure the fuel light is not on; full tank is not required)
- VAT Invoice (If the vehicle is VAT qualifying)
If You Are Not the Registered Keeper:
You will need all the documents listed above, plus:
- Written Authorisation from the registered keeper that you are authorised to sell the vehicle on their behalf
- Photo ID (Driving Licence or Passport) of the registered keeper
By having these documents prepared in advance, the process of vehicle handover and payment transfer will be much faster and more efficient.
